KANSAS OR OREGON? / Kansas Farm Life / Carolyn’s Natural Soap

multnomahfalls

Maltnomahfalls, Oregon

I feel like I,m living in another state like Oregon or Washington.  This cloudy, rainy, misty, muggy, gray weather is not Kansas,at least the Kansas I remember. I shouldn’t complain but, not seeing the sun shine seems to make me feel tired and sluggish, but it is cooler than normal.  How is this weather affecting you?   The good thing about this moist, misty air is that it could give us a second cutting of hay and the animals will have more grass to eat through the rest of summer. I do wonder if the weather is affected by what’s going on in the Gulf. I pray for those in our Southern states to have wisdom to be prepared and not take what they hear as fact, but what they know as truth, and act accordingly.

Our Jersey cow Becky is to have a calf in October, so we have dried her up to have a long needed rest from being milked.  We have been milking her for 5 years as she would not dry up and has not had a calf in those 5 years.  We are so happy that she is pregnant, at least we hope so.  Monday, I noticed that her udder was filling up with milk.  This cannot be happening as cows do not begin to have milk in their udders until a week or so before they have their calves.  Brian  took Becky into the milk parlor and milked out a couple gallons.  We’ll have to have her checked at the Vet when we finish the hay work.  We sure hope it’s not a false pregnancy. I’ll let you know after she’s checked.

EVERYTHING NICE / Carolyn’s Natural Soap / Kansas Farm Life

DSCF0059

I have been working on my new enterprise with Akins Natural Health Food stores.  I’m so excited as my first shipment of soaps will be going across the mid-west states very soon.  I’m beginning to feel like a real business woman.

Tomorrow I must make 4 batches of my most popular soap, Everything Nice.  It is so pleasant scented with cinnamon and clove essential oils and ground herbs. When you use this bar of soap the aroma takes you into a rejuvenating place making you feel happy and refreshed. The soap also cleans.

HAY SEASON / Kansas Farm Life / Carolyn’s Natural Soap

Hay season is finally here.  Brian is baling hay and the weather finally has become warm and no rain is in the forecast all this week.

Monday, the boys were able to put a couple hundred bales in the barn.  It was very hot that day and I had to drive the  truck as they loaded. The bale wagon was not working.   Today, we hope to use the bale wagon so the boys won’t get as tired.

Our grandsons are such a help.  Patrick and Chad are our oldest grandchildren and they are so faithful to help.  I asked them if they wanted to become farmers and they both declined.  As Brian and I get older we wonder who could be interested in farming among our grandchildren. Maybe our oldest daughter and son might as they can see the importance of living off the land and being self-sufficient in today’s economy.  Time will tell any way so not to worry just be thankful.

Rain on our backs / Kansas Farm Life / Carolyn’s Natural Soap

more%20Reid%20Ranch%20114

Wow, Barbecue in a rain storm!  The 4th of July is a Celebration of our Freedom from  British control, but this 4th was a celebration of a job well done in the nick of time.  Our grandsons and my husband Brian put over 1200 bales of hay in the barn before it rained again. Yes, we ate our barbecued hamburgers in a down pour.  The canopy leaked and we were soaked. This 4th of July is one for the books. We will always remember the peace we felt and joy in knowing the hard work was behind us at least for that moment as the rain dripped on our backs.
